Gut health & your hormones

July 18, 2020

Let’s talk gut health & your hormones. Impaired estrogen metabolism (or detoxification) can cause hormonal imbalances in both men & women. If you are not properly metabolizing estrogens in your gut, this can impact libido, mood, fertility and overall quality of life.

In women, excess estrogen can cause:
- Heavy or irregular periods
- Breast Pain
- Fibroids
- Irritability
- Suppressed thyroid activity

In men, excess estrogen can cause:
- Enlarged Breasts (gynecomastia)
- Erectile Dysfunction
- Infertility (low sperm count)
- Mood changes

Remember💡 All estrogens including the “bad” xenoestrogens are eliminated (or detoxed) in a two-step process via your liver and bowels. This is why your digestion matters when it comes to healthy hormones, periods, fertility, pregnancy, mood and overall feelings of wellness. ✅ .

Step 1 involves conjugating those estrogens and step 2 involves eliminating those estrogens through a healthy regular bowel movement. This is why ND’s love to talk about poop! 💩
